Cig Harvig – You Look at Me Like an Emergency

Photo by Cig Harvig March 8th to April 29th at Stenersenmuseet, Oslo, Norway
British photographer Cig Harvey, 1973, lives in Boston and on the coast of Maine. She uses photography as a means to tell stories. Often her work is a reflection of her own life and the things she has experienced. This is why she often uses herself as the subject in her images. She is also fascinated by vintage dresses which often end up being used in her photographs. Cig has exhibited extensively throughout the USA and several European cities.

Heidi Fosli – Ponti-Opere 2002-2012

Galleria Tondinelli, Rome, Italy from April 3rd to April 24th, 2012

Opening April 3rd 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm

The duration of the exhibition will be from April 03rd to April 24thHeidi Fosli is a Norwegian painter, born in Sandefjord 1961. She lives and works in Oslo.
Since her début in Oslo, Norway in 2006 things have moved in the right direction for Heidi Fosli, and she has received a very good reception in the art world. Clients consist of companies, private collectors and private persons from both Norway and internationally. What is unique about her work that differs her from most other artists is that she is placed in the transition between the colorist tradition (based on emotions) and the figurative line (the figurative derived from cognition, the logic and the rational), while she makes extensive use of symbolism (inspired by Munch’s symbolism, and influences from all the way back to Mannerism among the Renaissance painters). She mixes all these elements, while she mixes the figurative and the abstract expression as well. Fosli is considered to have an eclectic approach in her works. Therefore, she is in a unique position within contemporary art today.

From April 3rd to April 24th 2012 you can see her paintings in Galleria Tondenelli, Rome, Italy.

“The Royal Journey”  King Harald and Queen Sonja are both turning 75 years this year. “The Royal Journey” is the governments gift to this occasion.
There will be six exhibitions with treasures from the Royal collections of arts, photos and historical items.
Next Wednesday the first of these exhibitions will opened by culture secretary Anniken Huitfeldt. From the Nationalmuseums website:

This exhibition, the first in the series The Royal Journey, focuses on journeys as a link between the monarch and the people. While the focus is on journeys made by the present king and queen, the exhibition also looks at excursions to other countries by King Haakon VII and Queen Maud, King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha.
The exhibition presents some 250 items from the royal collections. One recurrent theme is the aesthetics of travel. The exhibition shows the paraphernalia of these journeys: costumes, uniforms, official decorations and gifts given to our kings and queens by foreign heads of state visiting Norway. Highlights include the carriage, costumes and uniforms made for the coronation in 1906, as well as costumes worn at the consecrations of 1958 and 1991.

Curators: Widar Halén and Nina Høye

The travelling exhibition Edvard Munch: The Modern Eye focuses on Edvard Munch’s later works and his relationship to his contemporary era. Munch’s personal experiences and the introverted workings of his mind have always attracted attention, but here the spotlight will be on his inquisitive participation in his social affairs and a modern visual culture.

The exhibition is stringently organized in distinct sections. In the first section we present some of his major works from the 1890′s. In the next we see later versions of the same motifs in Munch’s radical artistic idiom.

An essential part of the exhibition deals with Munch’s experimental photographic art. His photos are presented as independent works of art together with the artist’s experiments with film from the late 1920′s. The next sections display an array of visual and narrative sides of Munch’s paintings, inspired by experimental theatre, silent movies and modern photojournalism.

Magne Furuholmen “ECHO”
Stolper + Friends Gallery November 26th 2011 – January 15th 2012

Magne Furuholmen opened his exhibition at Stolper + Friends at Tjuvholmen, Oslo on Saturday, November 26th. Since it’s almost a month ago I guess it’s about time to write something about it…
I was so lucky to have Diana Dinslage for a weekend visit at my home and we went to the opening together.
The exhibition was of course crowded as its use to be. Magne Furuholmen isn’t only know for being 1/3 part of the former Norwegian band A-ha, but he’s also well established as an artists with international exhibition, a composer of film music and part of Apparatjik.

It took some time to actually get through and see the artwork. But with bit patience and “sneaking” around to the “empty spots” in front if the pieces we managed to get a good look at the exhibition anyway. And we liked what we saw. Mainly, not everything as much, but it is a strong, interesting exhibition.

The exhibition shows large scaled oil on hospital sheet and oil on paper works. They draw on life and death themes. The exhibition shows large scaled oil on hospital sheet and oil on paper works. They draw on life and death themes.
Magne Furuholmen works on hospital sheets for a while now. He works directly on the sheets and treats them as canvases where he works in layers of bold enigmatic marks and text. After this the sheets are stretched and ironed. The paper works are in light tones. They start their lives laid beneath the sheets and absorb the impressions of the printing process, the lines and marks of the sheet. The paper takes the physical quality of the sheets.

After a while we felt a bit “finished” with the exhibition and we went for coffee. We both had our opinions about the exhibition. Diana was so kind to answer some questions about the exhibition.

A:        What’s your impression of the exhibition?
D:        It is a fantastic exhibition with paintings on unusual materials, which are
well-chosen for this topic. By the distinction of paper and hospital sheets
the paintings get different meanings. For me the hospital sheets stand for
the moment; something is happening on it now. The paper stands for the
past, something is retained on it. I think the topic  “Echo” means the echo
of death and illness, which reflects to us and we should let them reflect,
because it’s part of everyone’s life.
A:        What’s your favourite piece?
D:        I have 3 favourite pieces. “Sepsis”, “birth-cancer-death” and “stroke”.
A:        Why those ones?
D:        These 3 paintings fit the topic perfectly. Magne Furuholmen chose a very
interesting technique for making these artworks. Additionally by using
colours he embossed the sheets, and also the papers, in different steps of
produce. The size of these paintings is the same as a hospital bed has and
they are brilliantly composed in metal frames. So it seems to be a hospital
bed. By this way the paintings appear enormous and special impressions
affect to you. The combination of letters, the colours red, black or grey
and the imprints imparts an extra expression. The imprints are in
different lowness and intensity brought on the sheets. These imprints and
also these colours on hospital sheets you will find when a hospital bed is in
use.

GEORG GUÐNI – Landscapes - new exhibition
October, 28th – December, 30th 2011
Georg Guðni Hauksson (B. 1961) was born in Reykjavík. In 1980-85 he studied at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts, and in 1985-87 at the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht in Holland like so many Icelandic art students of his generation.Since his first private exhibition in Reykjavík in 1985, Hauksson has attracted much attention for his interpretation of the Icelandic landscape. His paintings of mountains have been characterised by tonal values and a compact simplicity. In his works Hauksson paints “the mountains from his mind” as he has said himself and his silent mountain and landscape paintings are like symbols from Iceland that do not necessarily refer to a special place or mountain.  They do result from feelings and a state of mind which is related to a place or places in Icelandic nature and can therefore change from one situation to another.
